Kim Ward, LCSW


Owner, Therapist

Kim is the owner of Capitan Therapy & Behavioral Health, LLC. She started this business in hopes of providing a safe place for those struggling with mental health, addiction, and LGBTQ+ issues. Kim graduated with her Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from New Mexico Highland’s University in 2013. Kim specializes in treating trauma (EMDR), substance abuse, LGBTQ+ issues, and foster care/ adoption issues.

Kara Carthel, DNP, ARNP, PMHNP-BC

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Dr. Kara Carthel is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. She graduated with her BSN from Johns Hopkins University. She worked as an ICU nurse while finishing her doctoral studies at the University of Washington. She has worked primarily with the homeless population in both Seattle, WA and Salinas, CA. She has experience treating adults with serious mental illnesses. Dr. Carthel will see patients aged 14 and up.

Kara is an artist, woodworker, and musician. She has strong roots in the area and looks forward to serving the community.

Cheryl Moore, LCSW


Therapist

Cheryl Moore is one of the most experienced therapists at CTBH. She has worked in a variety of positions such as a therapist, director, and supervisor throughout her career. Cheryl offers everything from EMDR to treat trauma, to couples counseling. Cheryl works primarily with adult clients and is very skilled in all areas of therapy work.

Sunita Ochoa, LPCC, ATR


Therapist

Sunita offers telehealth therapy as she is currently out of state pursuing her doctorate in Neuropsychology. Sunita is bilingual and offers therapy in both English and Spanish. She is trained in EMDR, Art therapy, and many other modalities. Most of Sunita’s career has involved working with children but she takes clients of all ages.

Heather Kinney


Therapist

Heather Kinney is one of the CTBH family members. She owns and operates her own private practice out of the comfort of CTBH’s offices. Her agreement with our company means that, by working with her, you get the personal care from a small business owner with the benefits of a supportive team. Heather has completed 2 Master’s degrees and works well with children, families, and adults. Heather offers EMDR, play therapy, art, and client-centered services to name a few.
